On Differences between Chinese and American Dietary Cultures
摘要
饮食是人类生活、生产必不可少的一部分。饮食与文化是密不可分的，不同的民族与国家有着不同的饮食文化和习惯。中国五千年悠久的历史培育出了丰富的健康美味的饮食文化；而西方世界几千年的文明历史也创造出了灿烂的饮食文明。但是，这二者由于中西文化上的巨大差异导致了中西饮食文化在饮食观念文化、礼仪文化、饮食内容、烹饪方式和饮食方式上，都存在着显著的不同。
作为西方文化的一个代表，美国在很多方面不仅继承了西方文化，而且还有很多创新，本文通过对比中美饮食文化来展示中美文化的差异。
通过研究中美饮食文化的不同。可以使我们更加理解中美文化上的差异，同时通过相互交流饮食文化，还可以彼此相互学习，取长补短，从而改善各自的饮食习惯和结构，使各自的饮食文化更加完善。

Abstract
Diets play an indispensable part in human being’s daily life and production. As diets are closed related to culture, different ethnic groups or nations have their distinct dietary cultures and habits. The civilized Chinese history of 5,000 years has witnessed the burgeoning development of its rich, healthy and gourmet dietary culture; in the long course of Western history, the westerns have also created its own splendid and distinct dietary culture. However, owing to the yawning gap between Chinese and Western cultures, the Chinese and Western dietary cultures vary a lot from each other with regard to their ideational cultures, etiquette cultures, dietary contents, cooking methods and dietary modes.

As an epitome of western culture, America not only inherits western culture in many ways, but also makes myriads of innovation based upon that. This thesis is designed to reveal differences between Chinese and American cultures through comparing their distinct dietary cultures.
Through probing into the differences between Chinese and American dietary cultures, we could therefore have a clearer idea of the differences existing between Chinese and American cultures. Besides, the mutual exchanges of food and dietary cultures between China and America is of great significance in that they help us in learning from each other and make our dietary habits and structures scale into new levels in order to better our dietary cultures.
