A Study of Linguistic Features
and Translation of English News Headlines
Abstract: Journalistic English serves as a way to widen one’s knowledge of international community and plays a significant part in our daily life. As the start of a news report, a headline is an indispensable component of a news report and plays a special role in news reporting. Generally speaking, terseness, conspicuousness, compactness and humor characterize the good headline of a piece of news. The thesis will probe into discuss the linguistic Features of English news headlines and study the translation of English news headlines from the perspective of communicative translation and semantic translation in quest of efficient ways, dwell on the application of communicative translation and semantic translation, so that to accurately transmit information and retain the creating and cultural characteristics of original headlines as much as possible.
