摘要：威廉•梅克皮斯•萨克雷是英国批判现实主义的主要作家之一，《名利场》被公认为他的代表作，它全面描述了19世纪英国社会的全景并以此奠定了萨克雷在英国的文学史的地位。《儒林外史》是一部以知识分子为主要描写对象的长篇小说，也是一部典型的讽刺小说。《儒林外史》描写了一些深受八股科举制度毒害的儒生形象，反映了当时世俗风气的败坏。本文着重从以下三个方面分析两本小说的不同形象：本文旨在分析小说人物的异同点。在第一部分，和这两部小说的特征的异同，本文的第二部分，分析写作技巧，在文章的最后一部分，社会腐败的原因。

A Comparsion of Vanity Fair and The Scholars
Abstract: William Makepeace Thackeray is one of the most important writers of English and critical realism, Vanity Fair is generally regarded as his masterpiece. It gives us a panoramic view of English society in the early 19th century and establishes his important position in the history of English literature. "The scholars" is a novel with intellectuals as the main description of the object, but also a typical satire. "The scholars" described by stereotyped poison of imperial examination system of the Confucian image, reflected the secular trend of corruption.This thesis aims at analyzing the Similarities and Differences of the two novels’ character.
