摘 要：委婉语是一种普遍的文化现象，它以独特的角度反映和折射出一个民族的历史演进，及其政治、经济、文化、思想意识等领域的变迁。在语言实践中，委婉语也是一个常用的修辞格。汉语如此，英语也是如此。首先，本文介绍了委婉语的背景知识，从几个方面对委婉语做了较为详尽的解释，第二章分析了有关委婉语的翻译现状，提出译者可能面临的主要问题。第三章讨论了适合委婉语翻译的翻译原则并详细论述了以目的为导向的翻译原则，第四章则探讨了委婉语的翻译策略。最后本文阐述了委婉语翻译的重要性及前景。

A Look at the Translation of Euphemism Based on the Purpose-oriented Translation Principle
Abstract: Euphemism is a common cultural phenomenon, which reflects the historical, the political, the economical and the ideological situations of a nation from a special aspect. Euphemism is also a frequently used figure of speech when we use language, which is true to both Chinese and English. To start with, the scene-setting chapter illustrates euphemisms from several aspects and then chapter two analyzes the translation of euphemisms, which manifested at least three defects. Chapter three discusses the suitable principles of translating euphemisms and elaborates the purpose-oriented translation principle. Chapter four inquires the strategies for translating euphemism. Finally, the paper reiterates the importance of the study and proposes some of the prospects of the study.
