贝多芬的第十四钢琴奏鸣曲(月光)升c小调是贝多芬奏鸣曲中最优秀的作品之一。它打破了古典奏鸣曲的传统模式，以一种崭新的面孔展示于世人面前。激动、思索带有幻想的第一乐章，充满痛苦与忧愁;轻盈、明快的第二乐章冲淡了第一乐章的情绪，一气呵成地把第三乐章中暴风雨般的火热激情推向巅峰。
第三乐章与第一、第二乐章的结构不同，第一乐章不是奏鸣曲式而是自由的三部曲式，音型变化不大，但是通过和声的丰富变化使这个慢板乐章具有内在的动力，令人感觉到色彩的不断变化。第二乐章采用的小步舞曲体裁，以轻快的节奏将第一乐章的沉思和第三乐章的紧张气氛衔接的非常完美。第三乐章具有奏鸣曲式的结构，也是奏鸣曲的情感中心，激动的音符完全超出了古典主义的清澈典雅，而是进入了个人化的内心世界的表达。
